I started this project around 2014. It mainly comes from a deep interest and curiosity in these tribal masks. I strip them of their social meaning and try to focus instead on the shapes and patterns they present. To me, they are the many manifestations of the selvatic, raw, pagan human – the one that nowadays hides in straight coats, suffocating dresses and constraining poses, be it for the photos or for their jobs or to maintain social order. I try to put wild and civilised together, as figures that seem one thing, and then another. Prints avaliable here.
